Having been using a number of TV boxes and projectors recently which all come bundled with their own remote control and each one of these is different and has its own way of operating which can become a little confusing. I wanted something that has the track pad built in as I have struggled to close some menus using the standard remote as they do not feature the cursor pointer. This remote has all of these bases covered though and gives that extra bit of versatility that is needed with these kind of devices.

The controller looks like a conventional keyboard built in to something resembling a gaming pad. I believe it is designed to be operated with your thumbs when typing and for those with average hand sizes you can quite easily reach the middle of the controller from both sides. Some of the TV boxes I have been using have a search programme that allows you to look up programmes by name. Previously this would take some time to scroll through all the letters in search of the one you needed but no using a keyboard layout you can type just as quickly as you would with you smartphone keyboard.

Connection is quite straightforward as well and only requires you to plug in the usb receiver unit situated behind the battery cover. Once this is plugged in to the required device the controller will sync and allow you to operate the menu functions. There are quite a number of controls on the keyboard similar to what you would expect on a conventional keyboard. The use of a function key also allows some of the buttons to double up in function.

The controller is charged using a micro usb cable provided and doesn’t take particularity long to go from flat to full. There is also an on/off switch on the rear allowing you to conserve battery when not being used. The back also features a rubberised texture that will limit the chances of dropping the controller but it does fell quite well made and should be able to withstand a few knocks and drops.

    Summary

    Pros
    – Lightweight yet sturdy construction
    – Multi-function to be compatible with many devices
    – Quick charging
    – Responsive trackpad

    Cons
    – None so far

I received this product at a reduction, without obligation, in the hope that I might review it. My assessment of it has not been affected by that – it remains objective and unbiased.

Nice portable keyboard, though learning curve of it is somewhat steep to type properly/fast, 28 Jun. 2016

This full length QWERTY keyboard takes on a rather “gamepad” like take on keyboards. It allows you to hold the keyboard much like a gamepad and type with your thumbs. Ergonomically, it makes sense as the keyboard is rather small, it’s laid out exactly as a normal desktop keyboard and has contoured edges to hold comfortably.

The key’s are of rubbery texture and have a very clicky feedback on key presses. The layout of the keyboard may take some learning and it’ll probably be a steep learning curve for most, though eventually you’ll find it makes sense. I’m actually typing this review up on the keyboard, though it’s taking me 5 times longer than it would on a normal keyboard, but it does work as it should.

The keyboard features a trackpad on the top above the keys, the response/sensitively of it requires some getting use to as well. I found that you are required to have a smooth motion drag, rather than a swipe for the trackpad to be effective and go where you want it. It’s not as accurate as a full blown laptop trackpad, but it’s OK, at times frustrating because it isn’t as accurate as I’d like, though it really depends on what environment you are using it for. Using it as a keyboard for a computer makes it hard because things are optimised for such a trackpad, buttons are small etc so it makes life harder to accurately point and click.

The keyboard itself is quite light weight, perfect for a traveller and easier on your wrists than something heavier, but I would prefer it a bit more weighty, it feels slightly too light, much like a plastic toy. A built more weight would feel nicer and feel more quality.

Overall, it offers you the ability to have a full functioning keyboard all within a handheld portable keyboard. It’s perfect use for controlling your TV/Raspberry PI etc though don’t really expect it to replace your desktop/laptop keyboard.

I received this from the manufacturer and asked to give my unbiased opinion, which I have done, I want to be clear that I was not paid nor given any other incentive other than the product at a free/discounted price.
